2000 Rangers all had Rear ABS, 1990 or so a up, some had 4 wheel ABS
Yes, in 1998 thru 2000 Rangers all used the rear axle ABS sensor along with GEM for the speed signal, and ABS
Yes, its the only sensor for speed in 1998 to 2000
If its an ABS sensor issue you will also have code P0500 in the computer, can you check the codes?
A Bluetooth code reader is about $15, works on ANY 1996 and up vehicle, ANY VEHICLE, so good tool to have
ABS sensor generates its own AC Voltage as the rear axle spins, this AC signal = about 25,000pulse per mile(PPM)
That signal goes to GEM module behind the radio
GEM converts it to 8,000PPM and sends it out to computer, cruise control and speedometer
You can replace the rear axle sensor just on speculation, they are not expensive

Hey @RonD thanks for the Info. The gem was swapped at some point cause I have a spare in the cab when I got the truck 2 days ago. So not sure if it's bad or not. I've got a new speed sensor on order. I'll update when part comes in
Whats the Part number on the GEM?
Only 1998 to 2000 GEMs can work to convert speed
so first 3 digits must be
F87......1998
XL5......1999
YL5......2000
GEM were used from 1995 thru 2003

Good stuff
Inside each door on the Latch, at the bottom, is the door open/closed switch, seen here: https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.co...and-switch.jpg
It attaches to the latch with a "twist lock", so you needs to unbolt the latch so you can pull it back and "twist it" to release it
As seen its a plunger type switch, and because of its location any water and dirt runs down into the switch and causes the plunger to stick, people often spray WD40 or similar lube into the latch to try to get it "unstuck", lol
It is a Ground switch, switch is a Ground at the GEM with door OPEN, and no Ground with door CLOSED
When door is open there may be a chime(key in ignition) and a "DOOR AJAR" light on the dash
People often just unplug the switch, so its never a ground at GEM, vs replacing it, or the switch may just be stuck so no Ground at GEM
