Squeaks when letting off the gas

98 manual 2wd...I've got a squeak when I let off the gas. Seem to be coming from the drivetrain... does not squeak when accelerating.

If I have it in gear and am giving it no gas and am kinda slowly rolling and jerking along the squeaks time nicely with the truck jerks.... I know that sounds stupid, but that's what it does...

What is that? U-joints, clutch?

Goes away when I push the clutch.

I've searched quite a bit through the posts but didn't find any ones that had squeaks only in this situation....

What's a good way to test out what it is?

Could it possibly be the leaf spring grommets? I know mine used to squeak bad when you give it gas more than normal and it was the leaf spring grommets adjusting when the truck squats down. Just throwing that out there. Go push down on your rear bumper real fast and see if it squeaks.

I gave it a try, and no noise. It really seems to come from engine breaking.

Yeah, turned out to be the u-joint. It squeaked when engine braking or when backing up. Replace both front and back and nice and quiet now.
