Hey I’m new to this got referred a few times here so I’m giving it a shot. But I have a 2wd 5 spd 1984 Ford ranger. It’s got the 2.8 carbureted v6. I got the truck awhile ago and was told it needed a throw out bearing. So I replaced it and found out soon after that it was the pilot shaft bearing so it destroyed wall that holds the bearing. Long story short I’ve been to just about every junk yard and looked at every possible option on marketplace. Can’t find the transmission that in my truck currently. I was told but other pages that I could just just about any v6 older Ford trans that’s 2wd and just unbolts the housing. But yet none of the other options I find have a removable bell housing like mine. (My trans doesn’t have any tags on it either btw and has obviously been taken apart previously so I assume it’s already a swapped trans) but any help would be appreciated. I’d love for suggestions on trans that might just bolt up to mine. Thanks for your time for anyone who reads this
You have a Toyo Kogyo 5-speed manual trans in a 1984 2.8l 2WD
The Toyo Kogyo company renamed itself to Mazda in the 1980's
Google: TK5 transmission
You can still get some parts for these
This 5-speed was used from 1983-1987 in 2WD Rangers with the 2.8l(1983-1985) and 2.9l(1986/87) Rangers, and maybe the 4cyl Rangers in those years
The 2.8l and 2.9l AND 4.0l used the same Block so have the same bell housing bolt pattern
TK5 does have a detachable bell housing, so you can use one from another size engine by swapping bell housings

You can change to a newer model transmission, the Mazda M5OD-R1(M5R1) used in 2WD Ranger with 2.9l(1988-1992) and 4.0l engines(1990-2011), these have the same bolt pattern as the 2.8l
The M5R1 does NOT have a detachable bell housing so is engine specific
You would also need new flywheel, clutch kit and rear drive shaft from 2WD regular cab with an M5R1
