everytime i crank up my truck i get the really loud sound that sounds like something is grinding
i thought it might be the transmission

note it only makes this noise when the truck sit for a while and only does it when crankin

Is it your a/c starting up. My a/c makes a wierd noise like that but it has always done it even with my old ranger. Try cranking it with the a/c off tomorrow and see if it does it, then turn it on and you will hear it.

If you don't have your a/c on, then idk

 

Starter bolts coming loose , or bendix unit going bad.

 

i dont remember exactly but i believe mine does it with the a/c off?

 

i dont have the a/c on either but it still does it, could it be that the air conpressor pulley is messed up
my air conpressor is bad
