Trouble with 5 Speed (3.0L)

I just recently purchased my first vehicle, a 2000 Ford Ranger. Runs great but I have been having issues shifting. 2nd and 4th gear are difficult to get into. And occasionally, I cannot get it into gear at all. I can turn the truck off and shift just fine. As soon as I turn the truck back on, I cannot get it in gear. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a pilot bearing, time to take the tranny out!

Is it something worth fixing or would I have to replace the entire transmission. I know little to nothing about transmissions.

It's a $3 part that sits in the flywheel (easy to replace and not in the transmission) but if you ignore it, it'll eat up the input shaft like mine did requiring you to tear apart your transmission to replace it.

Ranger hydraulic clutch systems can get air inside and need to be bled

Google: ford ranger bleeding clutch

There is a Clutch fluid reservoir in engine compartment next to power brake booster, check it
Clutch system use Dot 3 Brake Fluid

Bad pilot bearing would usually make a noise with clutch pedal down to the floor, throwout bearing as well but it can also make a noise when clutch pedal is up all the way
