Compatability

I have a 92 4.0L V6 with a transmission on its last legs. I don't want to take the time to rebuild it so I found a FM145 on CL for 400 buck. It fits on the '89 rangers. Would it fit on my rig? I don't think the block bolt pattern has changed.

A couple referance points i found...

from old 4.0 swap - The Ranger Station Forums

transfer case compatible?

does it matter what 5 speed i put in ? - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

A4LD to FM145 Swap possible? - Ford Explorer Ranger Enthusiasts "Serious Explorations"®

From the looks of it, it would mount up with minor tinkering but would be lack-luster combined with a 4.0.

I think you could probably find a decent stock replacement for that money if you take your time and wait for the right deal. I'm no expert though, so take my pennies worth with a grin of salt
