Transfer case removal, how much fluid in adapter housing

06 Ranger, 4x4, automatic, extended cab.
Just pulled the transfer case (BW1354).
How much fluid should leak out of the backside of the transmission?
About a pint plus so far, but it does seem to be slowing down a lot.
Overfilled during service? (Merchants Tire/Auto flush job last year).
Rear seal on transmission output shaft go bad on me?
Normal?
Burn it and call insurance?

Per a quick read, there's no seal in the back of the transmission (5 speed OD automatic), and it's considered a 'wet' area, but if anyone knows differently, please let me know.

Yes, there is no rear seal on the 4x4 transmission, the extension housing is a "wet" area so fluid will be inside when you remove transfer case.
You should uses RTV when reassembling to prevent leaking, there is no gasket, Ford used RTV on assembly

And if you ever wondered where RTV got its name, RTV = (Room-Temperature-Vulcanizing) silicone

There was a gasket in the kit, and a gasket on the front of the transfer case/adapter mount when I pulled it off.
Went ahead and slathered both sides of the gasket with ATF compatible RTV and assembled.
Took longer to remove and tighten the bolts than it did to pull everything out and reinstall.
(HINT) A ratcheting 13mm box end will be your best friend if you ever do this. (/HINT)
Even resting the t-case on my chest to get it in was easier than jacking it into place. Not all that heavy.
All in all, I think I took 2hrs start to finish to include the postings here and the search to see if it was supposed to be wet.

And I used to love the heavy acetic smell of RTV's...not many of them have that left. Meh...probably toxic. Most of my favorite scents were toxic. I sure miss her though.
