People comment on the extra space between the O and R all the time and I don't think I've ever seen another tailgate like it. Most everyone hates it but I kind of like it just because it's different although I would like it better without the space I think.

Probably. I know some Rangers came from the factory with that style of tailgate except the letters are normally equally spaced.

Yeah, I'll have to replace the tailgate, it's in pretty rough shape. The latch is in bad condition and of course the rust. I've had this truck for almost 16 years and it's time to either fix it up or sell it for parts. I think I'm going to fix it up. I have no idea why the tailgate rusted that way. There are a few spots of rust on the vehicle but nothing even remotely like the tailgate.

 

It probably had a camper special emblem in the middle...lol Most likely it was a mistake...
