Third brake light

Just when I think I'm making progress on my truck, more things start breaking. Fix one and two more break. I resealed my 3ed brake light a year ago and its leaking again. Looks like the lens has a lot of small cracks in it. I am looking for a new assembly and I'd like to stay with an after market OEM style unit.

Dorman has one, 923-206 that looks like it might be an exact fit but the web sites I checked, including Dormans, says it fits from 1995 to 2008. I dont see any difference from mine. I have cargo lights and I want to keep them. Does anyone know if Dormans unit will also fit a 94? Also, with the LED units, do they require a ballast resistor or are they plug and play?

Thanks guys

I could probably do that too but it doesn't fix the leaking cracked lens. I am finding out that 3rd light and rear window leaks are pretty much a common Ranger malady. I just started having problems with this truck a year ago. Up till then its been more than reliable and I feel its worth restoring....and keeping.

See, thats the thing I was getting at. What years will fit my 94? I dont know. I kinda think that if I do find one in a junk yard it may be as bad as the one I have now...maybe even worse. This Texas sun and heat kills plastic.

Well I didnt want to hear that. Do you recall who manufacturer was?. Maybe I'll see if I can resurrect my light somehow. At some point I expect to get the truck repainted and I dont want some ugly repaired light hanging on a new paint job. I did find an OEM light at Tasca Auto parts in Rhode Island but they said the part was out of stock and is no longer in production. However, they had one that was all red for $90. My OEM Part number is F37Z13A613A.

Looks like 2003 was last year for the Cargo light option and it was an option so not all had it
1993 to 2003 should fit and have red/clear , but can also be red only
2004 to 2012 will be red only

LMC truck lists them for $85, Red/Clear

I took an Aftermarket LED Unit with Cargo Lights, turned the Cargo Lights into directionals using Amber LEDs, found the wires under the driver's seat.

Also, I used the gasket that came with the Light but I sprayed it with High Tach Gasket Spray, the red stuff, worked well.

Had a browse round Rockauto, i cannot find a high level brake light (the unit) listed for the 94, and as you already found, the common Dorman unit only lists 95 on.

No idea what changed i'm afraid, but you might be out of luck here.

I was looking on E-Bay, Amazon, and most of the LED Third Brake lights call out of '93 - 11, but some stop at '97.

Don't know the cut off dates but look around and see what floats your boat; make sure there is a new gasket with the light.

Thanks Ron...thats exactly what I was looking for. I think I'll try to restore my light. I sanded the lens and finished up with 1500 grit. It looks smooth and clean but I still have some fine cracks. I cleaned the edges of the lens where it meets the housing, masked the lens and housing leaving a gap between the two. Then used gorilla glue to fill the gap around the perimeter. The glue is waterproof and sandable.

When it dries I'll resand it and give the whole unit a few coats of clear. Maybe that will be enough to seal those hairline cracks. Then I'll get another gasket and run a silicon bead around it, then use grease as a release agent on the cab and attach the light. Hopefully it will work just fine. If not I'll have to bite the bullet and go with something else.

I checked LMC two days ago and was ready to place an order for some other items as well....then I read their privacy statement. After that I deleted my order. I dont think I'll be doing business with LMC unless they change their privacy policy and start respecting their internet customers privacy

Thanks again Ron

Thats what I dont understand...I know 94 was the last model year for several things but I thought the cabs were all the same. I cant imagine whats different between the 94 vs 95 units.
