lol, hey, i've been through the crap you are catching... i posted a thread a while back about LED strobe lights, it was 6 pages when the thread got deleted, it was all people telling me what the laws in their areas were, regarding the lights, when all i was asking is what they would do if they were to do it...
honestly, i wouldn't bother with the lights in the grill, unless they are going to be functional... i would not put blue or red in, that's asking for attention
as far as the light goes... not worth it...
i would also do chrome yes, chrome, real chrome, center caps, that's what the vehicles all use around here...

thanks weezl, i was thinking ambers too, and where i am, cops in SUVs all have those long CB antennas, cars have the pucks like you said.
maybe i'll just mount the lights i want on a pushbar on locking swivels of some sort, they really dont need to be remote, and the whole magnet light thing might grow old on me, and $200 is alot to go to waste.
yeah i was gonna take my chrome center caps off, get my rims painted or powdercoated, then put the chrome caps on again.

You do realize impersonating a cop is a very serious charge. The most you could do is have blacked out wheels with a chrome center cap, push bar and an antenna, no matter what kind of light bar you have you most likely will get pulled over.
PS: I have blacked out wheels and chrome center caps on my white ranger and it looks nothing like a police car.. Maybe if it was a full size truck but not a Ranger.

he's not putting a light bar on, he is putting lights in the grill... it's all perception... and no, even a light bar on your roof is not illegal, what matters is A) when you use it and B) what colours they are, and even if they are "illegal colours" point a would come in to play, depending on state law...

Let me ask you this...
Do you know any REAL officer who wants his personal vehicle to look like a cop car? I don't. If I met one, I would bet he would be a huge douche bag. You are asking for trouble for mounting illegal colored lights, appearing to impersonate an officer, and painting a target on your truck for vandals.

That has to be the worst lolwut response to a post I have ever seen.
A) I don't know how to explain it any more, if you are trying to make your car look like a law enforcement vehicle, that means you are trying to impersonate a cop.
B) Actually it is illegal in most states/provinces to have a light bar on the top of your car unless your vehicle falls under the category for needing one. ex. construction vehicle or emergency vehicle
C) And also about having a light bar on top of your car, try putting a police style light bar on top of a police interceptor, even if it is only white you can still be arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer.
your points have already been covered, and no, what he is wanting to do is NOT impersonating an officer

I am a county deputy and if I wasn't in the FD, I would not have lights on my personal vehicle at all. The Police Interceptor badges came on 99 and up P71's but I do not think they use them anymore. All of our newest cars just have Crown Victoria. Most department now are going to the 800mhz radios. The antenna for them look like camera film carriers. I'll see if I can find a pic. As far as scaring people, I doubt it will work too well. I was driving an unmarked car with blue lights clearly visible in the back window and people passed me like it was nothing.
Edit: antenna

sec. 130.
(1) Everyone commits an offence who
(a) falsely represents himself to be a peace officer or a public officer; or
(b) not being a peace officer or public officer, uses a badge or article of uniform or equipment in a manner that is likely to cause persons to believe that he is a peace officer or a public officer, as the case may be.
seen here: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/C-46/p...tml#codese:130
being he is not representing himself as, or using a badge, or uniform or any other equipment which would identify him as a police or peace officer, this section in the criminal code of canada DOES NOT APPLY
i cannot comment on the US laws, as i don't know nearly enough of them or how they are set up

I believe they are somewhat similar... If he uses orange lights you cant say he is trying to impersonate an officer. Never seen a cop with orange lights... I have seen plenty of cars that look like cop car and most of them are company cars and some are rent-a-cops who are overly excited to be a security guard and some are just people who stop on the side of the road alot and are trying to be safe about being stopped on the side of the road...
Just cause you look like a cop car dosent mean you are impersonating one
If thats what he like then thats what he likes Let him do it its not hurting anyone...
