The 4.0 has forged rods, a decently strong crank, and hypereutectic pistons.
In the Mustang, the 4.0 can make 400hp.

 

Sorry, gotta go with the 2.3 on this one. I have "waxed" both auto and stick 3.0s. The auto 4.0s are a little tougher, though I have managed to "wax" an OHV 4.0. The 3.0 just weighs too much for it's power output in comparison to the 2.3.

 

yeah, through a trailer behind your truck and a 3.0, the 3.0 will prolly win

 

yeah, that 10 extra ft.lbs. of torque really make a difference. Might even make up for the auto.

 

why not just swap in the mustang drive line is your truck going to be 2wd or 4 if you could swap in the mustang 4.0 and tranny which is a t5 in most cases then you would be set im sure it would take some custom work or you could build a 5.0 and then super charge it and could easly make 600 rwhp. with the right set up

 

ANyone saying this engine can make this hp or that one can make 300 or 500 or whatever before being built is just stupid to say. Its compairing apples to ornages. Those engine that can handle that much power were ment to make it...a ranger was not. Lets see a 400hp SRT4 pull through mud up a steep incline...or a 500hp 4banger run a trail 30 miles long in low gear...it wont happen. The 4.0 ohv or sohc wasnt meant to be a powerhouse. It was mean to try and last the life of the truck. yes there are mods out there...you wanna make more power..you gotta spend more money and mod it right.

 

i havent read this entire thread so exscuse my ignorance, i did touch a bit on the srt4 discussion. as a previouse owner of an srt4 and being part of a community that highly modifys them all i can say is if your trying to compare this truck and its engine to an srt4 your talking about 2 compleatly difernet things, dont compare the 2 cause they have no simmilar trates, you can spend 5grand(you can do it for alot less, but lets use this as an exsample) on an srt and get mid 400hp without touching internals, you spend 5 grand on this motor and your not even gona see the same performance. i know so much about thoughs cars and i dont care to get into or correct what was previously said about them in this thread but all i have to say is dont compare apples and oranges. this truck is what it is...

its not uncommon for people to spend up to 10 grand on most cars/trucks and only get 150 more hp.. the srt4 takes very well to mods so like i said comparing them to this truck is just useless..

If you want to know bout power, D and Nick are the ones to talk to. Far from stock! You needs lots of know how, a back up daily driver, and $$$.
