What is this thing? It is coil sprung, has an XLT badge, has a powerdome and honeycomb grille, a XLT 2WD bumper and valence, and has Sport decals like the 93-00s. Some older woman was driving it.

The only 2 things I could think was that
Someone has a 01-03 XLT that they did a 4x4 front end swap on and added the decals, or they had a 98-00 Sport that they did a 01-03 4x4 front end swap on and did a 01-03 2WD XLT front bumper.
Or it was a REALLY REALLY early 2001 short production Sport that was carried over from 2000 before the Edge came in. That would be really cool since I have never heard of that.

Opinions?

 

It was probably wrecked in the front and they went with used parts, probably a factory bumper/valance combo

 

i figured that to but it seems too pieced together. if they got a 01-03 4x4 front end then naturally would have picked up a 4x4 bumper. and it doesn't explain the sport decals if it is in fact an 01+.

Not really. If they got the front end at the junkyard, the 4x4 front bumper might have already been taken and there was probably a nice 2wd bumper on the ranger beside it. You never know.
