My 1998 4 cylinder has sat for a bit. When I tried to start, it takes a few tries and then idles VERY rough, to the point where the motor shakes and almost dies. I can slowly give it gas, but when I hold the gas all the way down, it begins to surge then fall continuously while I hold the gas down.. I have replaced the fuel filter. I also just replaced the original plugs and wires. Any ideas? I have about 120k miles. Thanks

 

First thing I'd do is check for proper fuel pressure, both before starting with the key on and while it's running.
