93 Ranger-16k original miles...
Found a 93 XLT, manual, 2WD....3.0. Mechanical everything looks perfect although I did hear some rattling I think it’s the driveshaft support bearing. Going to buy it tomorrow....what are the maintenance things you’d tackle first?
Welcome to the forum
Change the oil, change the coolant, Reverse heater hoses at the firewall.
It will have an M5OD-R1(M5R1) manual trans, these use Mercon V ATF, yes automatic transmission fluid in a manual trans, holds about 3 quarts, 2.8quarts bone dry
I would check it thru the "fill hole", drivers side about 1/2 way up the side, if it looks red then its probably ok for now, but plan on a drain and fill in the next year or so.
You will be replacing seals and gaskets as they leak, and they will leak, thats the curse of the low milers, seals and gaskets dry out because no oil touches them for months or years, so the crack.
Also plan on changing the rear axle oil, but drive it a bit first to see if axle seals start to leak.
Its a good find, but will have some leaks, so just tackle them as they come up

Also check the tires age, there is a Date Stamp on all tires, seen here: https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/...-of-your-tires
Manufacturers of course say 8-10 year age is max, but for me 15-18years, but also depends on where tires are located, dry areas, of course dry out the rubber faster
The rubber will deteriorate with age, treads wears down with Miles, usually treads wears out first...................but with low milers..............
Old tire can/will just blow out one day
