97 ranger 4.0 4x4 problems

My 97 4.0 rangers 4 wheel drive will not work, nor will the high beams or dome lights. Trying to figure out the problem. Also when the key is out of the ignition if you open the door, the ringer still dings. Let me know what you may think the problem is
thanks

Welcome to the forum

1997 Ranger will use a GEM(generic electronic module) to control 4x4 and interior electrics
GEM is behind the radio in the dash

Not common for GEM to fail but it does happen

Diagrams below, check fuses first

4x4 is controlled by GEM, dome light as well, and the "Chime"

The chime may be caused by failed "Key In ignition" switch, there is a wire at that switch that will cause the GEM to activate chime if key is left in ignition when drivers door is opened, if the wire is bad then GEM will activate chime when ever drivers door is opened.

Check fuses for 4x4 system first, see diagram

High Beams are not controlled by GEM..........check fuse #33 in cab fuse box(I/P fuse box), it is that or the Multi-function switch(turn signal stalk)
