Bumpter mounted hitch vs frame?

Eventually I would like to get a pop-up camper or something like that, would a hitch mounted onto the bumper be sufficient or should I get a frame mounted one?

I took the bumper off once and all thats holding it on are 4 small brackets so, looks kinda weak?

Look here are towing capacities: https://www.trailerlife.com/wp-conte...Guide-1999.pdf

2WD automatics have highest capacities

If your Ranger has an allowed high towing weight then get the frame mounted hitch, may need it one day

That's one of the reasons why posting the year, engine, transmission, and 2 or 4 wheel drive is important in asking for help.

Even better would be to go to your profile and enter all that info into your signature.

2.5l is there, won't be a difference

So a 4cyl Ranger should be fine with a good Class 1 bumper hitch, 2,000lbs max load, 200lbs tongue weight

In some locations any trailer over 1,500lbs needs trailer brakes, these can be tongue brakes so no wiring needed

The Bumper may be adequate, but why take the chance, a Frame Mounted Trailer Hitch is a cheap insurance policy... so why not !

I never like the Bumper Mounted Hitch, even when I purchased the new custom rear bumper it doesn't have a hitch built in.... Frame It and Tow Away !

Just my opinion !
