Cant get oil filter off need ideas
Just pay 3 dollars for the Motorcraft, I run mine for 5k with no problems
I keep an old M-14 canvas rifle sling in my toolbox for problems like this. Cargo straps work too.
Use a strap to encircle the filter at the base where the metal is strongest, then hold the strap tightly to the filter with a pair of vise grips (tips pointed at the filter).
The visegrip tip becomes the fulcrum, pushing into the side of the filter, tightening the strap and giving you good leverage.
Even the smaller visegrips work.

1) All the talk about oiling the gasket. I've never seen an oil filter gasket which didn't easily pull out of the groove in the base.
What makes anyone think a sticking gasket would prevent the filter from unscrewing? The oil is for either facilitating the gasket's seal or so it doesn't stick to the block / adapter.
2) If you can get your hands on a stuck filter: Crookedly wrap the can with masking tape. Let the tape go up-side-down so the glue is exposed and you'll have increased grip.
Many it's times enough for a grip.
3) I ALWAYS mark the filter can's domed end. When the gasket contacts the block / adapter you can see when you've gone the additional 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
It's amazing how difficult it is sometimes to get 3/4 turn after contact.
4) Unless you have arthritis in your hands NEVER use a tool to install a filter. I think that one is a Commandment.
