I am still on my first tank of gas with my new truck, and it is empty, the needle has been on E for a day. But, the gas light has not come on, I wanted to drive it until the light cam on so I can figure out my mpg and see how big my tank is when I fill up. But, the light has not come on. Is there a gas light? Maybe mine doesnt work? Last night the check gauges light came on, it is red, I think that came on because the gas guage is on empty, all of the other gauges were fine, so thats my only guess. What do you think?

 

There is no gas light. It says check gauge.

 

The check gage light comes on for fuel any other gage indicated problem. There is no gas light.. You still have about 4 gallons when that light comes on. You need to go fill up before you run the tank dry.

 

My gas light comes on when Im down to around 4 gallons

 

usually 20 gallon tanks, my light doesnt come on @ E it comes on before

 

Just keep driving that fuel light will come on .. you will see its there hahahahaha.

 

And you do not calculate MPG by when the tank says its in need of a refill.

Fill the tank and reset the trip odometer. Drive until your down less than 1/4 tank, sometime after the light is on and its in the red (you want to use a whole tank but don't run it dry). Fill up, preferably at the same pump. Miles divided by gallons = average MPG.

 

Math 101 here. haha. i feel so educated on this wonderful sunday.

Yeh... if you try to calculate when you fill the tank be sure the trip odometer was reset last time it was filled and it had to have started with a 100% full tank.

 

Or over fill it and get 110%

i've got a gas light. it's an orange jerry can and it comes on just as the needle hits the red line. it works out to roughly 5L. i fill it when that light comes on or shortly after and it almost always takes the same amount to fill it. 65-70L.

 

I think it's an 18 gallon tank. Mine will take about 70 litres.

I fill up arond a 1/4 tank usually and it takes around 50L to fill.

 

I've gone an additional 50 km's from when the needle hits E and the check gauge light comes on.
No need to panic, you have plenty of time/distance to go before running out of fuel. I've never ran the Ranger dry yet.
