Ive got a 2001 Ranger 4x4. Ive been shopping for an engine and i keep coming across older sohc, like 1998s . Does anyone know what years will swap with mine with olnly a few or no issues? This is my first ranger and i really dont know alot about them. I know the 01 and 02 are the same and they changed timing in 03 and i think 04+is the same, not sure about the older ones. Is my 01 harness plug and play with a 98?

 

id stick with a 01-03...ford changed the wiring in 04

nope...the ranger didnt get the SOHC 4.0 until 01...expos got it in 98
