Crash tested my pre-runner bumper... aka the accident mod

So after 5 years of owning the truck and never hitting or being hit by anything else. But on my way home from work tonight that changed. I was about 1/2 mile from home, last signal. The light is red as I am approaching so I'm slowing down. The light then turns green before I get stopped so I start to speed up to the speed limit (35) and this goon in the on coming lane darts out and makes a left turn right as the light changes right in front of me and the car in the other lane. I slam the brakes but couldn't get slowed in time and nailed there rear corner. Guess I should tell you it was a mid-90's Toyota Pickup.

So this is where it gets real good. I pull over and look back, I see them pull over the street they turned onto. Then they bolt! They just took off! So I pull into a parking lot and flip around to go search for them, as I do this a motor officer eyeballs me then keeps going. So I can't find them so I come back a couple minutes later and call the cops. Cops show up and take a report and he tells me that the motor called in the TC right when it happened so they knew. But when he looked at me he thought I was ok and kept going to see if it was further down then I called in and he went searching for the other guy.

So thirty minutes later I have a police report from one of the sargents, and also a detective, and the same man that we have dealt with the two times my sisters car was hit, the motor came back and I talked with him for a few minutes and another unit pulled up who was also out looking for the guy that ran. The sargent even suggested that I come home a little earlier and wait for the guy to get his plate (since it happened so fast I didn't get anything). I'm really happy with the way they dealt with it.

Onto the photos! Even though I clocked him pretty good my truck only suffered a broken light and a slightly bent bumper (totally fixable).

Fun times!

hit and runs suck!

i got tagged in my old car, not really any damage. i chased the person down and had the cops on the phone the whole time i was following them. next thing i kno the officer is behind me and then goes and pulls behind the car. the stupid idiot tried to run from the cops. the dispatcher had me keep up with them since it was only a 55 mph chase. cops finally stopped him and he got busted for a few things.

my advice, keep your eyes open for him. if you see him again, get behind him and call the cops asap with his plate number.

glad your truck survived, looks like the HD bumper did its job!

What speed would you say you were going when you hit him? The bumper held up well.
