2006 2.3l recently found the wires for the cylinder head temp sensor and iac valve were touching and was causing it to run rough , fixed the wiring and changed out the cht sensor now truck is idling great and head temp is staying around 185⁰-194 , plugged scan tool in and getting some readings that don't make sense it shows 425⁰ for cht "hot value" and 192⁰ for "cold" value any idea for the high temp? Right at start up it shows like 350⁰
I would say defective new CHT sensor, put old one back in and see if it changes
But it may be your OBD2 reader
Computer has these basic CHT codes it can use
P1288 Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor out of Self-Test Range
P1289 Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor Signal Greater Than Self-Test Range
P1290 Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor Signal Less Than Self-Test Range
P1299 Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor Detected Engine Overheating Condition
If CHT was actually reporting 425degF then one or more of these codes would be set
So wondering if reader might be misinterpreting data from computer?
Head temp sensor should be 210-240degF or so on the 2.3l Durtec
Its not a Coolant temp sensor which ran 185-195degF
2006 may have both ECT and CHT sensors but ECT was dropped for sure by 2007
Just looked it up, 2006 has both ECT and CHT, but ECT is only connected to dash temp gauge so wouldn't come up on OBD2 reader
Dash temp gauge has 200degF as 1/2 way, so just below 1/2 is what you should see after full warm up, approx. 190degF
