I have a 2006 Sport 4x4. I am looking to change from the stock open differential to a limited slip. I have found two options and would like some input.

Swap from the transfer case back off of a 2005 FX4 with the differential I want. This would mean I have to swap the front and rear differentials as well as transfer case to my truck. If this is the best option for the results I am looking for how would I go about accommodating it? Would the new parts be a direct bolt-on replacement?

The second option I found was to rebuild the rear differential with a locker system in it. I wouldn't dream of doing this myself so the cost of a shop to do the work would have to be included.

If you’re willing to do all that work, just weld the diff. Open the pumpkin, weld the spider gears together and go have fun.
