I have a 1999 ranger 3.0. Engine is shot. What can I put in other than another 3.0?

Why would you want to do that

 

Changing engine model/size requires the new engine, of course, but also new transmission, and then computer and wiring harness for the new engine/transmission combo you choose

Most choose to do a 302/5.0l V8 swap in Rangers, same work as any other "new" engine, but its a V8 Ranger which Ford never sold

Swapping in a different Ranger engine doesn't make much sense(or Cents) since you can go out and buy a Factory Ranger with say a 4.0l engine, cheaper than you could "build one"

3.0l OHV Vulcan engine was very reliable, if under powered, used in Rangers from 1991 thru 2008
You easiest replacement would be 1998-2003 model 3.0l
Then sell your Ranger and get one with an engine you want
