Fuel cap light

Hi guys , my rangers been setting off the check fuel cap light recently. Also at one point it had the p0457 code I believe it was. Evap leak code. I bought a new fuel cap as my last one was defective and not locking properly, I still have this code. I’ve checked the common pvc pipe coming from the valve cover, and I’ve checked the evaporation canister as I had the box off not long ago. Didn’t see any real noticeable signs of wear or leaks. Any idea how to fix this or how I can go about finding the problem ? My parts truck has the same issue, gas cap light on too.

Usual suspect is the filler and/or vent tube on the gas tank

get a towel and hose
Remove fuel cap
Put hose in opening and wrap towel/rag around hose to seal it, damp towel works better
Blow into the hose and listen for leaking air
If you hear it you may need a helper to find leak or blow into the hose while you find it

Its possible for leak to be in engine bay on the Purge/solenoid valve hose, need a helper for checking that, lol, or a real long hose and arm to hold the seal

DO NOT USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR for this, it WILL BLOW OFF FITTINGS
Your lungs can generate about 2psi, which won't hurt anything

Appreciate it, good idea. I’ll try this and get back to you thanks. Hopefully it’s a hose or something simple
