Gas Mileage in 2000 4WD 3L V6
Gas Mileage in 2000 4WD 3L V6
Im getting roughly 12-14 mpg each time i fill up, about 230-240 miles a tank.
the thing is bone stock cept i put brand new tires on it about a month ago (same size, not any bigger) I have a fram air filter, which is about as good as the stock, so im guessing that wont have any effect on it. I dont notice any differance in mileage after driving hard, or driving like a ****ing grandma.
Is there something wrong? Running too lean or something?
Its winter here right now, so im guessing it runs a bit rich to get the engine heated up quicker.
and btw its an auto.
and so i dont waste more space with another post, i have a 4WD, and when i want to switch it to 4WD low, it wont go in, isn't there a guage that lights up? For 4WD high it lights up, but not for low.

Cass is right. It will only go into 4lo in neutral. As for the gas milage it has to do with the colder winter air. The air is more dense and therefore requires more fuel. It will get better once it get warmer.
1. Engaging into 4LO....Neutral/Park & Brake on(not parking brake), turn switch. Try it. Let us know. My manual trans is Nautral, Brake, turn switch.
2. Fuel consumption. You're mileage is normal. Did you forget that you drive around a 4500 pound truck and a big engine?? (nothing against ya, bud) #1 problem I have is that the fuel has an added about of Ethonal in the gas, as high as 10%!! It's starts on approx Nov. 15(in Oregon) and goes on into the spring. It's done to improve emissions in the winter time. You are paying for watered down gas. My mileage has gone from 15mpg to 13mpg in the winter. Plus, I guess the cold air has something to do with it, just don't know what.

3.0 flex fuel engines SUCK....
my stock 4x4 got better mpg then my stock 2wd with 3.0 flex fuel.
Ford didnt do so good on that engine.
and my truck only got 11.5 mpg last tank...so ya, i would be happy with 14

MPG for my '00 4.0L 4x4 5 speed usually is about 16-18 hwy and 13-14 city.
The other day I decided to clean the K&N conical filter for the FIPK. While the filter was drying.... I checked the condition of the MAF. The volute of the MAF was perfectly clean and so was the sensor element, but I cleaned the element anyway. During the past couple days.... the MPG appears to have increased, but I will know more once I fill up.
Consider checking the condition of your throttlebody and MAF sensor. Cleaning them may provide you a surprise.
