Help! Engine wont fire no fule pump no injectors
My ranger has been sitting for a year. It died one day last winter.
I thought it was the fuel pump. I changed the pump, but guess what?
it didn't fix the problem.
here is where it's at.
I can put starter fluid in the intake and it will start.
I can hot wire the fuel pump and I have good pressure to the fuel rail . But it will not start.
The only thing that I can point to is the ECU.
that would explain the no fuel pump and no injectors ....right.
My next step ...unless otherwise informed ...is to put in a new ECU.
please give me feedback. I have checked the voltage.

Again what year Ranger????
Your profile shows 1989 3.0l, which there ain't any, lol, 3.0l Rangers started in 1991
Rangers did get PATS in 1999 V6 models and it did disable fuel pump and injectors when activated, so...................year matters

Not sure of engine size.
What is PATS?
I can work my way around a carb without hurting myself but I don't have a clue about injection.
clarification.... I know the theory but I don't know what the sensors do or the fine functions.

Now that I know what PATS is.
we bought the truck summer before last and drove it for about 6 months. I fixed some power steering issues and was using it around the property as a mule.
one day it just wouldn't start.
the keys that came with it are bare metal.
no chip.
there is a different key for the door and the ignition.
so I don't think tere is any kind of bypass.
but I don't know.
something else to look for.

I think I have a good ground to the relays.
I have a good pump.
I don't remember what the pressure was when I tested it but it was in spec. I hot wired the pump.
it will start with starter fluid so it has spark.

Appreciated
I just wanted to make it very clear how much I apprecite the help you all provide.
Working on cars is much like doctoring a person.
Or being a veteranarian might be more apropriate.
An animal cannot tell you where it hurts. All you can do is follow the symptoms.
So thank you for any help you can give.

No PATS
1989 Ranger 2.9l will use a distributor with TFI spark system
Fuel injectors all get 12volts with key on, the 12volts comes from the EEC Relay and EEC Fuse
Each fuel injector will have a Red wire, that wire just daisy chains from one injector to the next
Use a 12v test light or volt meter to see if that Red wire has 12volts, test any easy to get at injector, as said its all the same wire
If no 12v then EEC relay or fuse is bad, spark would still work it has separate power
The EEC is the computer so the EEC relay also powers the computer along with injectors AND..........fuel pump Relay
The distributor and TFI module send out a timing pulse to the computer, this timing pulse is used to time the injectors, so if this wire were bad then no injectors even if they have 12volts
Its a long shot
1989 Ranger diagram on where EEC relay is, under fuse box: https://www.2carpros.com/images/ques...0/original.jpg
EEC fuse will be in the fuse box, usually 30amp
