Hood won't release

I'm posting this for a friend. He can't open the hood on his 2006 ford ranger. You can pull the hood release under the dash but nothing happens, The hood doesn't open at all. So the question is, how can we/he open the hood? I appreciate knowledgeable input.

Thank you!
JD

Put hood pins on it that’s what I did with mine to avoid that

What happened to me may not be your friend's problem but mine was an easy fix. I was out in the wilderness and tried to open my hood without success. I asked a friend to pull up on the hood while I pulled the release. It did open that time. I adjusted the hood stops up a little and that solved the problem. I did eventually have to buy a new hood stop because one was worn quite a bit.

I know the cable can break, and that is not nearly as easy to fix. Of course other things can break too, but I like to start with the easy stuff.
