Horn problems

My onky works randomly when it wants to. Never when I need it to. I took the steering wheel cover off and looked at the thing that you push to make it blow. And everything is fine. But that’s when I realized it only worked sometimes prior to that I thought the switch was bad in the steering wheel. I need some advice or a solution please and thanks

Need the year of the Ranger?

And does it have Keyless entry?

In most years the horn buttons in steering wheel were the ground that activated a relay, under the dash or in the engine fuse box, and the relay activated the horn
So could be intermittent ground wire on clockspring or steering column, or a problem with relay 12volts, even a horn issue, its 12v wire or its Ground to Rad support

Start engine
Try horn
Turn steering wheel and see if horn becomes more reliable at certain positions, if so then its a ground issue in steering wheel
