I told myself I was gonna leave it stock....
I told myself I was gonna leave it stock....
And yet I just pulled the bumpers off today to prep them for painting tomorrow.
Sure, im not going ape**** with mods right now. so far the modifications to my truck are minimal. I know me though. they ALL start this way.
my Cougar started out as an 88K mile 2 owner car. its since been painted a different color, recieved some go faster parts, got nice wheels, more supportive front seats, had suspension redone and has a big ol happy 428 FE waiting on the stands that cost more to build than i originally paid for the car.
My Galaxie was a $250 turd when i bought it. one of the plans was to keep it pretty stock, but make a beefy cruiser of it. well, 3 years into ownership its plan has changed from a beefy cruiser with a rebuilt 390 into plans for a full on 460 swap with forced induction backed up with old meets new Nascar looks in flat grey.
Now my Ranger, and the ultimate point of this thread.
bought it as a good on gas commuter that was more reliable and comfy than the aforementioned vehicles. "im gonna just keep it stock". well, so far the mods list is as follows (in order of being done)
- replaced single CD player with a factory 6 disc MP3 changer
- replaced stock corner lights with stock 06 lights
- tinted the 5 windows
- tomorrow im painting the front and rear bumpers at work because the i didnt think the truck was "black enough."
- probably gonna do the headlight dechrome black out
- probably gonna get the 05 emblems too
- gonna paint the Edge grille i have too when i get around to it
as you see, im just using alot of different OEM parts from different models and years. Yet i know me. this is how it starts. add a little something to make it a little different than the next guy. yet it builds and builds and builds with any car i own. i know im not alone here.
who wants to bet that in a year ill make a thread on where i can get a Ford Racing Supercharger? :D

Good start. Modding is half the fun of owning a truck! Only reason I haven't done more to mine is because the other half is expecting and seems to think we need to save money for the baby...what does she know?
How 'bout some pics?
How 'bout some pics?
well this was the day that i brought it home. doesnt look much different right now, its just the details that you all would pick up. which is kind of what im after. ill post pics after i get the bumpers painted and back on. damn i really gotta do the grille. i bet itll look cool. then the emblems... then,..... ayy...
I believe it is impossible to be a member here that visits regularly, owns a ranger, and not mod your truck
BTW The first mod I did to my truck was painting the front bumper and fender flares. Good luck.

i have a problem.
the fact that i have pics of my Cougar, Galaxie and now my Ranger without bumpers on them is bad. The fact that i still drive them around like that is worse. the fact that my Galaxie hasnt had a front bumper in 2 years is just icing on the cake.
I painted the bumpers today. ill just say this, ive painted alot of things over the years and some parts were a pain to prep. these bumpers with their matte black finish were a ***** to prep. a Tundra backed into me once and scraped the black finish off in one spot. i had to feather out the repair but well, it wouldnt feather out smooth. if you paint over that, it will lift. so i had to keep taking it back... further, and further. then i got mad and just stripped the front bumper. hey at least i got all the rock chips out :D
it looks good. it was free for me to do and i love that my work gives me free paint :D taking full advantage of that, i used their scratch resistant clearcoat that resists swirl marks and can even repair minor swirl marks on its own. (no im not BSing, look up Standox VOC Platinum Clearcoat if you wish, thats what i used) sure its only the bumpers but any of you here would do the same thing in my situation.

painted it yesterday, threw it all back on today. i know the rear bumper doesnt look all different in the pics, but the whole thing looks alot more complete in person. i dig it.
before

after - yes the rest of the truck is really dirty. ill wash it soon.

next up ill do the emblems.
