If Ford brings back the Ranger what stays and what must go?

To JP, I hadnt thought about the mirrors FOV, i will look again the next time Im driving it. Personally I love the visibility with the low beltline/ bed height enough that I havent had too many issues with the mirror. Might be a good point though.

How can you "upgrade" from a Ranger?
Confused????
You can upgrade a Ranger, nice paint, brush guards, ect......
You could buy a newer Ranger, but really isn't an "upgrade" either, just a newer "best vehicle made"
You can get a smaller car or truck or a bigger car or truck but I don't think that could be considered an "upgrade" by any known definition of that word.
up·grade
verb: upgrade;
1. raise (something) to a higher standard
As said, confused???

Right out the gate you said something irrelevant to the thread. Then you tried to come later wither your opinion. If you would have read the question you would have seen the big ''IF'' in there. More than likely their won't be a new Ford Ranger but you could still could have answered the question right the first time. Thanks for showing your ignorance.

You come to this forum insulting people. Guys who have been here forever and have become mods or admin.
This thread has gone 4 pages. Admit it or not, your butthurt.
I love my ranger and don't wanna sell but I've outgrown it (like alot of members).
The ranger was direct competition for the fiddy. Ford saw it, guys who've gone from ranger to fullsize have seen it. When will you?

Saying that "When will you" see it, comes across as your way (just go buy a full-size) is the correct way to go. Whether you directly meant it like that or not, I won't say for sure. There are a number of people who don't see small trucks as a penalty box or a mere stepping stone to a full-size, and will not get "pushed" into a full-size.

I went from a fullsize supercab F150 to my current longbed Ranger. Mainly like I stated before all the kids had grown and left home. I found myself riding in that big ol F150 by myself 90% of the time. The other 10% was mostly just my wife with me. If they brought the world Ranger to market in the US with the same models available world wide that would be the improvement to sell me a new Ranger. They are almost dead in between a Ranger old style and a F150. Not really that close to a F150 like some people state. Did I even mention small turbo diesels and 6 speed manuals! But we are not worthy of such a truck it seems.

I'll agree with some stuff you've said bratman. I dunno why I said some of what I said and some of it was in hopes that a thread like this would disappear. They can be annoying.
I do like the compactness of mine and that's one reason I'll miss it. However I need the extra space. Otherwise I'd consider a Colorado crew or a sport trac adrenaline.
A perfect example is dodge, they made the Dakota bigger. A year or two later axed.

When I bought my 2010 ranger, I just wanted a plain jane truck to commute to work that would not break the bank buying gas. My next ideal ranger will be diesel powered 5 speed. I wish ford would offer power doors and windows without some goofy interior package that looks better than my wife's living room!!

There were rumors of the Ranger coming back last year and then again next year...
do we really want it back ?
Pictures look like an Ford EDGE with a pickup bed, independent suspension, wimpy axle housings, do we really want that ?
Ford will never make a real HD Ranger so we are beating a dead horse, even if it comes back it will be a dead horse so let it die.
And I think we get one of these threads every couple of months, let it be, wasn't that what the Beatles said... !

I don't think there's any harm in creating discussions about what we would like out of a compact or mid-sized Ford truck, even if it doesn't come to be in the U.S. for the forseeable future. This is a Ranger enthusiast site, I don't see the need to "let it be" and give up on there ever being a worthwhile smaller pickup.

Ok, back on track here. The new Ranger needs to be bigger, have more power, better gas mileage, maybe a center console shifter, power rear window, back up camera, crew cab, better towing, and a king ranch model.
Damn......I think i may have just described a F-150.

Except cheaper, smaller, and more fuel efficient. And keep a manual available as well as a regular cab. That should provide some separation from the 150

yea, i hate the look of the new ranger that's over seas. looks like a puss. but i can see why ford is thinking about bringing it back. tacomas have 0 competition in the small truck market. why not make a competitor? could make money, or lose it. but it's worth a shot. ford definitely knows how to make a truck. should be interesting to see what they end up doing. I like small trucks that you can fit down trails and wheel. I love my ranger, but thats why for my next truck i'm looking at tacomas haha. like I said. they have no competition.
#95
Here's the competition.. Round front end, up swept rear door windows....just as ugly. I'm sure these will fly out of the dealership like the last Colorado's. Can't even recall the last time i have seen one.

That may not look as much like a truck as most would like, but the new Canyon surely does:
And to make things even better, they're going to offer it with a diesel! Ford would have to really change their game with the Ranger to compete with this, and unfortunatley for anyone who likes smaller trucks, it just doesn't look like they're going to.

Ford already has the F-150, F-250 and F-350
So Ranger needs to be, and stay, smaller.
They need to offer just 2 engines
V6 flex fuel(25mpg), Duratec 3.5l (285hp) 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic
V6 Turbo Diesel(31mpg), 3.0L TDV6(250hp) 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic
Extra cab(4door) only, no regular cab any more, and not 4 full doors, if you want that get an F-150.
(If you want to transport more than 2 adults..............get a car, or a BUS if you're still complaining, lol.)
2WD or 4WD
I would like to see manual hubs and manual transfer case only on the 4WD model but I know that is wishful thinking in our push button age, lol.
In that case AWD might be a better option than 4WD<>2WD shifting, and 4 wheel independent suspension on AWD models
