"metal coat hanger sound" under engine
was doing my regular look around on the 2.5 tonight and and i crawled under the truck when it was running. i noticed a sort of metal coat hanger tinging, pinging together kind of sound, that happens randomly. i guess it could also be described as a musical triangle sound. i have no idea how to describe it. i have no idea what it could be. the truck is an auto 1999 Lima 2.5 with 180,000 miles on it. I never noticed it until now. does anyone have any ideas or should i be concerned about it.
I ran over a Drycleaner awhile back and had that noise, turned out to be a hanger :)
Just Joking, he wasn't a REAL Drycleaner, just a guy walking across the street with some shirts on hangers.
No, the sound doesn't ring any bells, could be starter motor gear is loose a tapping against the Ring Gear .
When engine is cold, loosen and remove fan belt, take it off the crank pulley
Start engine, you can run COLD engine for 2 minutes without water pump or alternator, no longer.
Then get under engine and listen again, noise could be from fan belt driven accessory, so would be gone, but without the Fan noise any other noise will be easier to detect

Thank you for replying!! So how did the guy feel after that experience lol
I looked again today after i warmed it up to go to school and i can only hear it in the passenger wheel well and under the truck on the pass side. cant hear it on the drivers side. My idler is squeaking badly and gonna replace it (new part still under warranty) im wondering now if it could be that?
