I think you'll find that members here will have higher miles on their vehicles than average because we're more likely to take care of our trucks than the average Joe Schmoe. We don't tend to 'drive it like we stole it'. So the numbers will be skewed.

Well that’s the conclusion I’m trying to find actually. I want something low miles because I plan on keeping it for a while, but if I take care of it and don’t mind doing the work myself, then buying one at 200k and taking it to 350k+ shouldn’t be the worst idea.

would like to find one closer to 125k, but not sure if I can in my budget

97 4.0 is at 180k just rebuilt engine and transmission
96 4.0 is at 240k engine good leaking oil all over but transmission broke just now
02 3.0 is at 292k engine is pretty good except valve seat issue causing running rough, trans still holding up

Engines are decent, auto transmissions in these are not stout by any means

Over 279K miles on my 02 FX4 with the 4.0 SOHC engine. I bought it new and it has been maintained well. Repairs have been mostly what I consider standard maintenance. The engine has not been rebuilt but I did rebuild the cam timing chain system at around 250K miles. I have had issues with the manual transmission popping out of 5th gear, but I think I am close to getting it resolved. Otherwise, it runs as good as when new and does not use any more oil than new. I have not babied it either. It has towed my race car all over the country, been off-road a lot and is my daily driver. I don't hesitate to run it to red line if I get the urge.
