Ok what would you do?

Ok in October next year ill have 5k to spend on my Ranger, i know its still a long way away but i wanna know what you guys would do so i can get some ideas. Ok what i would use my truck for is my DD and some Wheeling(yes i know its a 2wd) nothing too hardcore but wanna have some fun.

So what i was thinking was:

LSD or ARB air locker W/ 4.10s
Either Camburg kit up front or Just spindle lift with Bilstien 5100s all the way around
AAL in the Rear
Bigger tires (not 35s but just under that but bigger then my current tires) DURATRACS
Rims Either 15x10 or 16x10

But on the way till next October, Ill be doing:
CAI
Black headlight mod
Tuner
Possibly Headers

Let me know what you guys think

Wirelessly posted

The locker will take you further than tires or suspension will anyday.

Other than that spindle lift and tires on 15x10s. Put more rubber between you and the road.

Just my .02...

I would take that money and do a IFS 4x4 Swap. You are an Edge, it is SOOOO easy. All you have to do is get a t-case, the D35, driveshaft, 4x4 spindles, CVs, and weld a diff mount on your frame in the front.

Just find a wrecked 4x4 and take the whole front suspension. Your stock control arms, bars, shocks, brakes will all work.

x2 could be easily had for under 5k and would be worth more then the rest.

honestly i think your truck looks pretty nice now judging by your signature. If you actually have 5K$ to spend on your truck?? Get a 4wheeler. You'll have the best of both worlds. I wish i stopped at body lifting my truck and 35s then got a 4wheeler, but of course i had to get superlift and expensive wheels/tires

Yeah, but I gained a lot more options out of the new truck. Plus 30k less miles.

Yeah that's true. Mileage is a big factor. I could see myself in another Ranger down the road. Not another 2000 though. Defiantly an 04+. 06-07 Level II would be cool.

OP: Seriously though, if you have 5k to drop in your truck you need to seriously consider the fact that it's 2WD. Maybe the first step should be making it more off road capable with a 4x4 swap that dumping money into performance and what not.

You wanna put $5000 into your '04 Ranger???? Not a very economical thing to do... Get yourself a diff truck that's 4x4 or something. IDK, 5G's sounds WAY too much to spend on one vehicle (especially as common as a Ranger)

Same could be said about any vehicle. Nothing wrong with it if the person can AFFORD it without putting themselves in a bind. Look at all the tuners, domestic muscle cars. If there weren't people wanting/willing to put money into it despite the year/make/model then we would have nothing but bland and boring cars to look at and drive.

Very good point you make... but judging by the OP's post, it sounds to me like he's budgeting to be able to afford it. Or another possibility is that he's gonna come into an extra $5000 that could otherwise be put to better use.

I guess my main hook is that I can't justify spending about half a vehicle's value in modifications that won't raise the vehicle's resale value (as much).

Another hang up is this... and the OP doesn't have to answer if he doesn't want to: Where's the $5000 coming from? Budgeting or something else?

Are you his accountant? What if the OP is a drug dealer? That's 5000$ from cocaine sales. I could care less, he asked opinions on modding his truck, not money budgeting.

I was attacked by a dog in 1997 and i sued the guy. I wasnt 18 at the time so my mom got to choose what to do with the money so she put it into a payment plan.

When i turned 18 i got 5k
21 - 7k
25 - 10k
30 - 15k
35 - 25k
40 - 35k
45 - 40k
50 - 122k

thats how the payments break down. I sued the guy for 47k and my lawyer took 12k and then the remaining 32k was put into an account gaining intrest since 1997 and continues gaining intrest every year. Thats how, so im taking 5k and paying off the Ranger and some other bills, then im using the other 5k on the Ranger to make it the way that i want it, cuz otherwise i wouldnt be able to afford to.

Here's my thought. Your truck already looks great as is. However new wheels wouldn't hurt and if you really want to lift. Go with a BL. For a few reasons. One its cheap($150) 2 you always have the option to still convert it to a 4x4 unlike with spindles. 3 you dont HAVE to get new tires unless you really want too. Even if you got new wheels tires and BL you'd only be at maybe 2k at that point. Which means you have plenty left over and still have changed your truck a good bit.

Screw lift. 4x4 swap all day.

If I had an Edge or Sport I would done it already. Since I'm coil sprung the best way for me to do it is just SAS and throw in a t-case. But I will also need a new engine since a 4cyl Ranger SAS would be a joke.

You have everything good you need to do a 4x4 swap. Edge or Sport. 4.0 engine. Just find a wrecked 4x4 with extended cab and auto trans. Take everything and do it. All you need besides a parts truck is the little mounting tab for the front diff.
