I thought the bed got damaged? It looks fine. Not as worse as i thought it was man. I was expecting your tire to be in your radiator, axle vertical, and a flaming bed.

He said the axle probably didn't bend, it was the seal scored by the sand that caused the leakage.

Wonder if having double wrapped springs would have helped out in this situation.
From what your saying its almost like quicksand, the more you try to pull out the more suction it puts on the tires.

I had to go back and look at hte beginning post, for a moment im like how is he standing on water.

It was the impact and anything would have been damaged. That Chevy leaf is off of a 1/2 ton pickup and it makes no sense to call it "weak". It might have been defective, but considering the other damage, there's nothing pointing to the spring as the "smoking gun".

Im glad you are ok physically though, although you are probably an emotional wreck with everything you had invested in the truck financially and personally.

Zach I am sorry this happened to you

yes but the spring gave, to me springs dont bend like that. the springs were from an 89 chevy, so it could have been misused, tampered with, who knows.

but alot of the damage to the driveshaft, axle, spring hangers, U jount, and U bolts were from the spring bending.

Yes, but the front crossmember? I don't know, Zach -- I think you just hit too hard. That's way too much damage for a weak spring BENDING. BREAKING, perhaps -- but merely bending like that?

The way it's bent is odd. What direction was the impact that bent it like that? It looks like you backed into something and jamed the wheel FORWARD?

Did it happen during extraction backwards? Going forward it would be very hard to bend a spring like that. That's either a torsion force from the truck spinning, or the wheels getting caught on one side and not the other, etc.; or going backwards. No matter what, it would take some impact.

I don't think you even indicated how fast you were going.
