stalling issue
stalling issue
Trying to help someone in another ranger group fix a problem. 1994 4.0 4x4. Newly acquired truck. When the truck is put into drive there is a clunking noise then the engine stalls.
Put rear end in the air on Jack stands and put into drive and applied brakes. There was no clunk and no stall. So, not faulty convertor right?
sounds like the noise is coming from the rear end/ transfer case area. He said he opened the rear end it looked all good.
could it be the tranfer case causing the noise and stall?
Is it internal transmission?
Tyranny fluid full and not burnt smelling
Fuel pressure @30 rose to 40 when put in drive. Clunk stall fell back to 30.

In a 1994 4x4 "super cab" there is a carrier bearing just behind transfer case, these wear out, bit of a pain to change
Anyway give it a good look, it looks like this......new: https://fortwayneclutch.com/wp-conte...0-1x_cb_22.jpg
The rubber part rots away
If this is the issue remember to MARK everything as you take it apart so it goes back in the same way so driveline stays balanced
And might as well replace the u-joints while its out, they are not expensive
Article on changing it here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...g-replacement/
Stalling issue may or may not be related, the engine should remain running under load of being put into Drive or Reverse
So that could be an issue with IAC Valve, computer uses IAC Valve to set idle, in Park and in gear
You can try cleaning it first, not hard to do, also clean MAF sensor, also not hard to do
