Upper Control Arm Bushings...

I've got a bad squeek coming from the front end when I go over bumps. I just replaced the shocks a few months ago but I know one of the rears was bad out of the box when I put it on. Now before I replaced the shocks I had a very slight rubbing sound from the bushings on the control arms but it wasn't very frequent and only happened when it was between 40* and 50* for some reason. Now I'm going to trouble shoot tonight and remove the shock and see if it still squeeks, and if it does im almost positive its the bushing. Anybody have a clue how hard these are to replace? Something I thought was interesting though, I hear the sound when I turn my steering wheel as well so I thought it was something with my power steering pump or rack and pinion assembly but its hard to be sure. My fluids are full and its not the typical 'low fluid wine' you normally get. ANYWAY, if it ends up being the bushings, how much time would it take to replace these? It's a 2000 XLT 4x4 Sport with the 4.0.

It may not be your bushings, ball joints tend to squeak when they get worn.

from my experience the lower ball joints seem to be the ones that make the most noise when worn. Mine would creak and groan over bumps and when turning but the uppers never seemed to make that mutch noise.

x3 on the ball joints. But I have also had sets of stabilizer bar bushings creak and moan and groan too. Just an additional place to look at.

If you don't have greasable joints then get yourself a grease needle and it should take care of the squeak. It did on mine and they were loud but had no play in them at all..

Thanks guys, it was the ball joints. Easy fix and I'm good to go.
