What's the cost?
What would the general cost be to have the fuel pump replaced on a 2000 2.5L 2WD? Has anyone paid a shop to have it done? I know it's fairly intensive with dropping the tank or pulling the bed and the pump and wiring harness by themselves run a couple of hundred. So i'm guessing around $500-$600 in labor but that's a clueless guess. Let me know Thanks.
There's a video on youtube of a guy just taking the 6 bolts out of the bed, raising the front of bed a couple of feet and pulling the pump assembly up out of tank.Looks pretty straightforward. I had to change the fuel pump on an S-10 a few years ago.First time I used the dropped the tank method, which was a nightmare as I recall. Had to do it again a couple days later for some reason, dont remember why. I was not gonna drop that tank again! Took a pair of strong tin snips and painstakingly cut a 3-sided square "hole" in the bed right above the fuel pump. About 1 foot square.Pulled the assembly up and out. Pushed the "flap" back down when done.Wish I had done that to start with. Its usually just the little motor that goes out.About 15 bucks off ebay.

Shop has to use a $550 Motorcraft fuel pump since they must warranty it
maybe $250 labor
They would not pull the bed, if you have a lift and a transmission jack then dropping the tank is easier
Some shops will do the work, Labor only/NO warranty, if YOU supply the fuel pump
Any Mobile mechanic will also do that, they would lift the bed
I had a 98 Mustang Saleen with 18k original miles that use to eat fuel pumps all the time. I bought it with 13k on the clock and the owner told me he changed the fuel pump. I had a local shop replace the next pump with a ford OEM pump to the tune of around $800. That pump lasted about a year or so. I replaced the next one myself dropping the tank and putting in a pump I got from NAPA. Only took about 2 hours start to finish. Wasn't a horrible job. One thing I learned about Ford fuel pumps is they don't like to sit idle for extended periods.
pull the bed yourself, takes 2 people. then either do the pump yourself, or have it done. In most states you just need working brake lights on a 'truck'
rear bumper can remain, so just zip tie the lights to the bumper.
6-8 bolts... save yourself hundreds. Plus this gives you a chance to tackle the rust on the underside of the bed.
