Your winter mods....
my "road spare" stays in the bed, for winter a sand-filled tire goes underneath, even though i have 4wd a little weight in the rear helps. its about 130-150 pnds. i take off my stock aluminum rally rims and put on steel wheels from a jeep wrangler with skinny tires, got new treads for these rims this year. when i had a 2wd ranger i usually put about 400 pnd in the bed and put snow tires on all 4 corners.
i can't wait got my truck last nov and was my first truck 4x2 and was an outsider to truck driving being no weight in the rear end and RWD. but tossed 4- 16"x16" patio blocks and 2 tube sand bags in the rear and found that made a world of difference. even with haveing old bald tires. this year i have my new SIGNET Winter Trax and my diamond plate box in the back which has all tools in it and should add quite a bit of weight as well.
Winter weight all in with spare wood used to brace it all in and stop from flying into cab if ever in an accident.

This was a good thread to read. I picked up some good tips and my winter setup is now complete.
My truck sucks for winter: 1991 ranger (old), 2wd with NO limited slip, regular cab with no weight distribution over the rear wheels, etc.
Here's a pic of everything:

I built a 2x4 wood frame, it has 240lbs of the "Quickrete" sand bags, and the shovel is mounted to the frame via hooks, and secured w' a bungee cord.
