2008 Ranger -right side of instrument cluster is out
New to me 20008 Ranger 4x4 4.0 right side of I instrument cluster is out ... I.e. the speedometer. Replaced the bul s, checked size #1 on the inside fuse panel. Rear of cluster and all other lights work. Dinner works for the left side of the cluster, and the idiot lights and check engine light work.
I did some searching, but didn't find anything I ha won't already checked ... I think. Unless the dinner switch dims the 2 halves of the cluster, separately? There ARE 2 plunngs on the back of the cluster. I reset both multiple times.
More suggestions?
Just a side note. The only other ford I ever owned, was (and I still have it) a 1924 Model F Roadster. No fuses on THAT puppy! :-)
Thanks!
Dennis

The 2004, and up, Ford Rangers use an HEC digital dash, these have a test mode
Google: Ford HEC test mode
There are videos on how to use it, also read here: http://www.carlogic.org/bg/data/Ford...ler%20mode.pdf
Problem with the digital dash is there are no user serviceable parts to swap out, a microprocessor runs all the gauges
You can check fuses, yes there is only 1 "dimmer wire" for the 6 bulbs
I do see TWO ground wires, you could test those
Wiring diagram below
But here's the issue, the Cluster(HEC) is "married" to the engine computer, if you unplug it then engine will not start, if you swap it with another 2008 HEC then engine will not start
I would check at ForScan forum to see if that software can "remarry" a replacement cluster to computer
Otherwise its a dealer repair only item, or if you can find a shop that has the Ford software they can also do it

Yes, good news is, they rarely have a problem, bad news is, its a pain when they do
Ford did it for a few reasons but the main one was to prevent people from swapping in lower mile odometers to cheat used car buyers
