5r55e and 4R44e/55e

A shop sold me a transmission. It supposed to be a 5r55e but after doing some reach from what i read it should have 16 bolts holding the pan on. The one they gave me has 18 bolts. Just wanted to confirm this is correct. Any other identifiers would be much appreciated.

Pan bolts seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/wp-...t_patterns.png

You have a 4R, if you paid more for a 5R then have them exchange it

But.................4R and 5R are the same inside, 55E was only used for 4.0l Rangers or Explorers, bigger OD drum
Same solenoids and wiring inside
Ford added software to the engine computer to turn OD on when in 1st gear, this gives a smoother shift to 2nd, but Ford called it a new 2nd gear, so the 4-speed 4R became the 5-speed 5R, by changing the shifting software in the computer
Very clever, these Americans, lol

What matters most is the sensors
1997-2000 4R or 5R won't have ISS external sensor above shifter and thats needed in 2001-2011 Rangers

Its a long shot but i gotta ask.

If the only difference between an older 5r55e and a newer 5r55e is the addition of the iss sensor will the guts from an older 5r fit into the case of the newer 5r that has the iss sensor?

Transmission guts interchangeable?

Long story less boring a shop that turned out to be shady as hell told me they had a 5r55e trans. He didnt know that they changed from 2000 to 2001 by adding the iss sensor. Been going back and forth with this _____(insert adjective/s). Finally got my money back from him after he tried giving me multiple incorrect transmission. He even swapped the bell housing and tail housing on a 4r to attempt giving me as the 5r. Today i was supposed to be going to pick up my original transmission which was in pieces when i got there. Turned out to be not my original one so i left with the 4r and the 5r from an earlier year(no iss) in hand. I figured since he doesnt have my original 5r and cant or wont produce one then any 5r would have to do. Been almost 2 months i have been dealing with this piece of sh^* and I really dont want to have to see him again. I figure at least i will have some kind of 5r core I can hopefully use.

The newer 5R will have a tone ring inside that the ISS reads, so the "guts" are a little different but will fit

I guess the question becomes how do I integrate the guys of the older 5r into the newer trans with the tone ring. Or do I just have a computer/tuning guy come out and delete the ISS sensor from the computer if possible?

I have a contact. Calls himself the tuning guru. He can come out and pretty much do anything you want to your cars computer system to tune it. Delete unnecessary stuff, adjust almost anything controlled by the PCM.
