8 position auxiliary relay box in 2000 Ranger XLT 3.0 L V6 Flex

Hello,

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but after scouring this forum, the extent of my internet knowledge, and jumping into the truck to try and troubleshoot in person, I still have not found a solution. The issue is a 200 mA off-key draw that is persistent well after 30-60 minutes shutoff. I've traced it back so far to Fuse 26 (battery saver relay, electronic shift relay, interior lamp relay, power window relay, electronic shift control module, dome/map lamp, GEM, instrument cluster), but have since been on a wild goose chase for the identity of the relays in the auxiliary relay box underneath the dash. The relay box appears different from all of the schematics and diagrams I have been able to locate.

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 with the 3.0 L Flex V6. The auxiliary relay box I have appears to be an 8 relay box, all of the same type/size. I've attached a picture below. When I pull the top left relay, the 200 mA drops to ~50-60 mA. Does anyone have a diagram for the 8 position relay box?

I think the diagram below would be correct for yours, but SLOTS for the relays are shown not relays, so there are 5 slots for each relay, so 8 relays total
Its shown sideways so rotate 1/4 turn counter clockwise, mentally, lol

Upper left would be battery saver relay, so once unplugged there would be an amp drop, for sure, if it was still activated, relay has 12volts full time
Try pulling lower right relay out, that should disable Park Lights, if diagram is correct
Manual trans wouldn't have the "shift lock relay"

The GEM module should de-activate(unGround) the battery saver relay after the 30+ minute timer expires, timer starts after key off/doors closed, locked or unlocked doesn't matter

You can try swapping out this relay, could be stuck on

The GEM grounds this relay to activated it, then ungrounds it after timer expires(key off/doors closed)

So either GEM is not working right or relay is bad

GEM pin 8 on the 18 pin connector is the ground wire for battery saver relay, should be a purple/orange stripe wire

And yes, Ranger should have 70ma or less if all systems are off as they should be
Radio, computer and keyless entry all need power full time, but 70ma is the most that should be seen with just those 3 things working

Thanks much! This is very helpful.

The relay itself did not seem to be the issue (I just swapped out the 'bad' relay with another one and the draw was the same 200 mA), so I'll maybe dig into seeing if another component is the issue.

Thanks again!
