Icon5 99 B3000 Speedo and Shifting Problems

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted. I've done a bunch of research, mainly reading @RonD posts but i'm coming up a little empty. I havent' seen any recent posts from him but if he's around would really love his input on this one.

Long story short, it's a 99 B3000 that isn't shifting correctly and the speedo, odometer aren't moving. This is after putting a new cluster in from an explorer.

I have forscan and although it's reading engine RPM, my gem.vss_gem and pcm.vss are 0 on live data tests.

The only time I have any gem codes is if I ride the truck down the road, wait for the transmission to drop into second (randomly) and I get a flashing od/off light, I hear some clicking inside the dash, followed by some VSS codes for the GEM and the PCM that they're not getting a signal.

I can see that the Gem is receiving AC voltage (0-50mv) on the red/pink to ground indicating the VSS is providing a speed signal but I'm not getting any signal out of the GEM on the black/Grey wire. Other body functions like wipers, dome light and 4x4 shifting operate normally.

I tried depinning the bottom connector on the gem and reading from the black/grey pin on the gem in DC or AC but after 3 gems it's still coming up as 0v.

Can anyone tell me if i'm on the right track troubleshooting this? The last thing I remember when the speedometer worked was it starting at 0mph, going all the way up to 120mph (while barely moving) and dropping back to 0
