Air bag connector question...

I am changing some interior parts on my 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 4 WD. I have replaced the instrument cluster, radio, climate controls, and radio bezel with items from a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport (white background instrument cluster, silver radio, silver climate control bezel, silver radio bezel, gray steering column cover, gray steering wheel/ air bag.).The Explorer Sport has a gray steering wheel. The air bag for the gray wheel has a different connector than mine. I went back to the salvage yard and picked up the clock spring wiring harness. This harness will plug into my main wiring harness. Is this a safe mod to do? I don't know why the connector is different. The Explorer's I looked at of the 2002 year that had a black air bag covering/ steering wheel had the same connector as mine. The connector color of the gray wheel/ air bag is gray, mine is brown. I was hoping that since it will all plug together that it will work properly. Thanks for the help.
