Auto to manual electrical help

Hello I’m new here, been searching through the forums trying to find some info. I’m swapping a 2001 Ford ranger 4.0 sohc from automatic to manual. I have all the goodies to swap it over including a pcm. I can’t find the harness for the transmission side of things so I opted to modify my automatic harness to work. I could use some help in finding a diagram of the automatic harness or what wires to jump. Thanks

Welcome to the forum

Needs to be a 2001-2011 Manual trans so it has the OSS(speed sensor)
OSS has separate connector
Grey/red and dark blue/yellow wires

Reverse lights, wires on DTR connector now
Purple/orange wire, 12v key on
Black/pink wire, Out to tail light bulbs
You need the 2 wire connector for manual trans Reverse switch to splice these 2 wires in, there is no "order" it's just a on/off switch

That's all there is on a manual trans for wiring, speed sensor and back-up lights

But you will need to by-pass or jumper the "Start in Neutral" wires
2001 should still have the Clutch switch jumper under dash, I think in 2002 or 2003 Ford used separate harness for manuals and automatics

So look under dash above clutch pedal area for a 6 pin connector, looks like this: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.ran...0b88dbe9bb.jpg

It will be plugged in to another connector that runs down to automatic transmissions DTR switch, its a jumper that you won't need any more
Unplug it and plug it into the clutch switch

I believe I have a 4.0 engine/transmission harness for a manual transmission sitting in the shop that I pulled from a rolled 2003 with a 4.0 years ago. I remember it kinda sucked to remove it, much more so than on my 3.0, so adapting your auto harness is definitely the way to go.

yea if I could have found a parts truck I would’ve taken everything from it but I’ve had to piece this together from about 4 different vehicles. The parts around me are scarce

I had to do the same when I did my truck. The forums helped me big time because a few people chipped in and sent me the parts. I can tell you that the manual swap will always be the best thing I did to my truck. It made it ten times more fun to drive, and it made it twice as reliable. I swapped mine over seven years ago and still love it.

that’s awesome! Mine is a 200$ ranger that my buddy and I have thrown parts at to get back into working condition and the 5r55e decided to let me down during a gambler 500 event and that’s when we decided to manual swap it. First time at a gambler event, nothing hurts more than that level of disappointment

Oh, you'll love it for that too then. I'm not surprised about the 5R55E, they have their limits and racing is one of them. haha. Mine blew up on a trail ride out of the blue. Drove the truck to the trails, started to go down one, realized it was too much, backed out, went forward but then saw a buddy was stuck, so I put it in reverse, and the truck went forward. lol. By some miracle I was still able to drive the truck for two months until I was able to collect all of the parts for the swap. Luckily you're not in that situation and you don't need this truck that bad.
