Battery Box

The battery box on my 2000 Ranger, 3.0 flex, 2wd only accepts one size battery. Is there any after market add-on that will allow a larger battery to be installed?

No, but you can remove it and install whatever size needed.

A battery is ONLY USED to start the engine, that's it, it is not used when engine is running, all voltage comes from alternator

Battery's are rated in CCR(cold cranking amps), this rating is done at 0degF, so 32deg below freezing, and a 30second crank

These batteries SUCK at powering ANYTHING long term, they have thin plates to output power FAST at high amps, like starter motors
You hook up a light to them and leave it on a few hours and you have a dead battery and it won't EVER charge back up to full again.

Deep Cycle batteries are made for long term drains, thick plates, they are made to run down and then charge back up.
They can be used for starter motors, but not great for that.

I cut the edges off of my factory battery tray to install the largest group size I could. No complaints and no problems so far. It's been that way for a couple of years now.

Thanks! How about recharging the battery from the electrical system? I wonder if I need to check that?

Might end up doing this. How do you secure the battery in place?
