ok he is what is going on with it.

It was running very ruff so I thought that I had a cilinder out.

take it to a macanik find out I have 2 cilinders out ( it is only a 4 banger)

he told me to get new spark plugs and wiers so I did and that did not help out at all.

since that did not work at all he was thinking that I may have some bent valves or some thing like that. so do a comprsion test on it. I have not don that yet.

but when I pulled the plugs out wich had less then 3,000 mils on them, thay showed a lot of were.

any in put on what I should do.
this is not the only thing I need to fix on the truck ($600-800 in other things)

I am thinking about getting a new truck 89 f-150 (4x4 :supz: ) for about $2000 and part out the ranger

With the ranger ignition, the failure of a single coil in the DIS ignition kills TWO cylinders. It sounds like a more likely failure than two cylinders both losing compression. I'd troubleshoot the spark before I did a compression test.

 

i dont know john, the way he is talking its an older ranger. i wonder how fast this problem occured, there is more to the ignition than the wires and plugs, depending how old it is, there are many parts. possibly the DIS like john said if its new enough, or if it older, possibly cap/rotor, pick up coil, ignition coil, etc. you have to work backwards from the spark. also, if he had bent valves, he would have heard the contact at some point, vavles rarely bend on their own

also now that i think about it, if youre spark plugs are wearing that fast, you may have a fuel delivery issue, possilbly some injectors going bad. thats why you gotta start with the spark, make sure each plug is firing, if they are, its most likely a fuel system issue. then of course we would NEED SOME INFO to help you any more from there

 

That's a good point -- without knowing what year, it's difficult to know what's there.

For the record, all you folks should describe your truck a bit more (like the year) when you post questions on problems. It helps.

When I reread his post and signature it does sound like he must have an older truck. I just thought since the DIS always fires two plugs at once from a single coil, that would wrap up the problem "nice and neat", lol. Of course, real life is seldom so nicely packaged!

it is a 85 2.0L the problam started in one day (moring start up fine nite befor)

if all the plugs are getting spark, then the problem is most likely fuel related. is that engine carbureted or fuel injected??

 

i think the 85 2.0 is carbed.
if i remember right my 87 2,0 was carbed

hmm, you need to make sure the carb is clean and tuned correctly, what color are the spark plugs turning? dark brown? white? oily? dry?

Benny, I think he's asking if there is unburnt fuel on them if you remove them right after running the truck. Sometimes you can take a plug out and clearly see that the cylinder had gas, but that it didn't fire. This works best when the truck is run cold.

Wow, man -- "it never rains but it pours" as they say. Sorry you're having so much trouble.

Hang in there on the credit. I'm 49 now and have gotten 0% car loans and now own a house -- however I had a 22 year drug and alcohol addiction and as you can probably guess I didn't exactly take care of "business" during that time.

As a result, I had TERRIBLE credit with judgements against me and so on. You may not be in that dire a situation. However, the good news is that over time you can fix that. My first loan was an 18% interest rate on a 1995 Hyundai Elantra -- a loan for people with bad credit. I paid that off over 5 years (at a whopping $407 per month!) and that helped establish my credit. My next car loan was a used car loan for my first Ranger at 7% interest, and my most recent Ranger was purchased with 0% interest.

It takes time and it sucks -- but you're going to be around a while so you might was well work at it and build it up -- or build it BACK up for those who were in my situation.

It DOES get better if you hang in there!
