CAN bus Electrical
I am building a 1949 International pick up on a 2008 Ranger chassis. The Ranger is 2.3L 4x2 manual truck
I plan on using as much of the 2008 as possible, however, i would like to remove some of the modern day stuff(air bags, abs, cluster, occupant classification) I don't have room for or would not like to use
My question is, has anyone done something similar?
I understand that there is a CAN bus system in this truck, but how would I go about removing some of these modules that I don't want?
Is it something as simple as a jumper wire in the harness, or am I going to have to do some prom flashing?
Is there even a way to make this a stand alone harness similar to some gm LS conversions?

Welcome to the forum
The CAN bus is not the issue, you can leave out any modules you want, but delete the 4wheel ABS unit in the engine bay and use a regular Master cylinder with proportioning valve
The problem will be the cluster and engine computer(PCM), Ford got tired of people swapping in lower mile odometers to trick people into paying more for lower miles
So they "married" the PCM and cluster together, so one will not work without the other "talking to it"
And the Cluster also has the PATS(passive anti-theft system) as well
Not sure what the work around for that might be
But for sure, no "simple jumper wire" fix
You will need to check with Ford PCM Tuners to see whats possible, check with local Speed Shops or places that do Dyno Tunes, they will known PCM programmers or do it themselves

Thanks for the reply
I plan on using a hydroboost brake setup from a late 90s mustang since there isnt much room on the firewall or under the hood of the International. Being able to remove the ABS module and block also frees up a lot of space
After reading your reply, i did a bit more reading on the PATS system and it appears that I am stuck with both the factory ignition and cluster. I have not come across anything as of yet to try and eliminate either
I have also not found any programmers or tuners, especially in my area. LS stuff, everyone is able to do something lol
I will continue to hunt
Thanks again for the reply

You could look at 2001-2003 2.3l PCMs, they didn't need the cluster and PATS was inside the PCM, and used a standard fuse box not the SJB like the 2008
But.............it was a different wiring harness, one large connector for PCM not 3 smaller ones like 2008
2001-2003 2.3l did have IMRC and heated thermostat, but both should be able to be deleted along with PATS by a Ford programmer
2.3l Duratec is a Mazda L engine and Mazda never used IMRC or heated thermostats, they did use PATS
Never looked, but a Mazda 2.3l PCM from a manual trans vehicle might work, just need the correct PATS keys with the PCM(or add them later), and the 2001-2003 Ranger engine wiring harness
