check engine light

i have a 1998 4 liter v6 engine. ranger xlt. the engine sounds like nothing it wrong. there is no leaking as i can tell. i checked all trasmission fluid, the engine oil, plus the radiator fluid ,and the power steering fluid. those are all fine. i put on a new belt tensioner because the old one was screwing up 1 week ago. the check engine light came on im gussing about 3 or 4 days after i put the tensioner on. any hints on why it is on?
