Coolant leak

Hi all,

My son’s truck has a coolant leak where it looks like it’s almost running out of the timing cover and blowing back on the oil pan. There’s also a small amount inside the timing cover. I checked the thermostat housing and it’s right. I’m thinking it’s the water pump. Any ideas? I’m going to try to post pics.

Assuming 2.3l or 2.5l 4cyl engine, 2001 or earlier?

Yes, most likely water pump leak

But rad hoses and heater hoses can get pin holes and spray coolant out in an almost invisible stream
So fill up rad, and warm up the engine to get pressure in the system
Shut off the engine and then move you hand around the area wear you think its leaking to make sure no streams hit the back of your hand, lol

Yes, sorry. 1996 4 cylinder. I already checked all the hoses and made sure there are no pin holes so that’s good. What all has to come off to replace the pump? I’m a fairly good shade tree mechanic but I’ve not replaced a pump on one of these.
