Dash Temp gage inoperative!

1997 Ford Ranger standard cab no thrills, 2.3l rear drive and 5 speed manual. Looking for the part name or number, for the socket, that the dash temp sensor / sender. It looks like some one cut it out ( probably has the same problem finding part). It should be on the hard pipe coming from thermostat housing, with the other end going to heater core? I have heard it called an”elbow”, the 3.0 model is F77Z-18599-AA, need part for 2.3, 1997 2nd generation engine. Again I don’t need sensor or sender, but the port the plugs into on the engine and or hard pipe. Never thought something so simple is so hard to find.

Will be hard to find

Your best and easiest fix would be to get a heater hose fitting, bung for the temp sender
Cut hose insert bung, 2 hose clamps, Ford did this for a few years

Like these: https://www.glowshiftdirect.com/16mm...se-attachment/

Or at wrecking yards

The sender needs to be 2 wire version not 1 wire, 1 wire needs to be grounded

Ok what is a “bung”? I see “elbows”,like this...Amazon has a partF77Z-1859-AA

will this work? I see that the connector is on the wiring harness above, the heater hose intake hose.

Thank you for your assistance. The local Ford Dealership ,parts guy was just a bean counting naive me a number guy (no money in helping a DYS person
That is why the hose looked spliced, the previous owner just cut the sensor port out of the hose and used a simple two way connector. I was sad because I had no shoes until I saw a man with no feet!

In this instance a "bung" is a hole in a metal part where something screws in
Like in the exhaust pipes there are "bungs" where O2 sensor screws in

Or that elbow you posted has a "bung" where a sensor would screw in

I was suggesting you add a "bung" to the heater hose, like Ford did on some years, its just a short hose coupler with a threaded fitting for a temp sender

I have seen posts asking for the part you want, and there just aren't any out there from what I have read, so this was an alternative to get your temp gauge working for now, or forever, lol, if you want to stop looking for that part
